December 5, 2017, the UN General Assembly agreed to launch the UN Ocean Decade from 2020-2030 with the vision "The Science we need for the Ocean we want". One Ocean Week aims to encourage more people to take an active part in the ocean decade through increased knowledge about the ocean and by adopting solutions that ensure sustainable development of our oceans. One Ocean Week is set to become the international, annual meeting point for the ocean we want.

One Ocean Week is set to become the place for debate, exchange of experience and experiences related to the sustainable use of the ocean.

Are you planning an event during One Ocean Week 2024?
Get inspired by the IOC's seven areas for concrete results for a sustainable ocean:

  • A clean ocean - where we identify and reduce or remove pollution from the ocean.
  • A healthy and resilient ocean - where marine ecosystems are mapped and protected.
  • A predicted ocean - where we can understand and anticipate changes and consequences for society.
  • A safe ocean - with protection from hazards on the coast and at sea.
  • A sustainable and productive ocean - ensuring people's food supply and livelihoods.
  • An accessible ocean - where everyone has access to ocean data and information as a basis for decision-making.
  • An inspiring and engaging - where society values the ocean's contribution to welfare and development.

Main program during One Ocean Week 2024

Saturday, April 13 at 12.00 - 13.00: Welcome home, Statsraad Lehmkuhl!
In 2023, Statsraad Lehmkuhl returned to Bergen after almost two years on a historic circumnavigation of the globe - the One Ocean Expedition. In 2024, the proud ship will once again return to Bergen, after Bergen Shipping Voyage - a voyage for young professionals in the maritime industry, this time to Shetland. Statsraad Lehmkuhl is warmly welcomed back to the city!

The event is organized by Bergens Rederiforening, Norges Rederiforbund and Maritime Bergen

Saturday, April 13 at 12.00 - 16.00: Maritime Saturday at Festningskaien
Western Norway and its ocean capital Bergen has one of the world's leading, most diverse and highly concentrated environments related to the marine industries and marine research. The region is home to a unique number of companies in the marine and maritime sector, from shipping to seafood. The maritime capital Bergen and the Western Norway region are international leaders in research and innovation. On Saturday, April 13, we will showcase some of these spearheads.

Along the Port of Bergen there are exhibitions and demonstrations of technological innovations from the region's companies. Visitors can see demos of new ships of the future, pumps that reduce salmon lice, and learn about hydrogen and fuel cells. There will also be DJs, street art and food trucks.

If your company would like to showcase something on this date, please contact contact@oneoceanweek.no

Sunday, April 14 at 11.00 - 16.00: Family day at Festningskaien
Sunday is once again set for a Family day at the pier. Here you can learn, taste, smell and experience. There will be open ships with activities on board, a seafood tent, a cultural stage, an ocean rebus, knot tying, stockfish banking, fish dissection, lifesaving and much, much more.

Events on board Statsraad Lehmkuhl? We're planning for the whole week!
Statsraad Lehmkuhl is docked at its home port on Bradbenken at Bryggen during One Ocean Week. The ship is available from Monday, April 15 through Friday, April 19.

During the day, we can hold several parallel events both above and below deck. In the evening, the ship is a wonderfully pleasant and informal mingling place, with long tables and a bar on the main deck and the sea as the nearest neighbor. Do you have any questions or want to book a slot for your event? Contact us: lehmkuhl@lehmkuhl.no

New event facilities at Skolten
The Port of Bergen is breathing new life into the old departure hall at Skolten. Renovations are now starting on the second floor of the venue, and the former departure hall is being converted into a modern conference room with a magnificent sea view and food service.

Parts of the renovation will be completed in time for One Ocean Week 2024, so that the venue can be used for conferences and events as early as April, but it will, however, not be completely finished.

The main room has a capacity of 200 seated conference participants, but can also be used for smaller events. Want to book Skolten for an event during One Ocean Week?

Send a request to: contact@oneoceanweek.no

We also encourage you to use your own or others' premises for events.
