The return of the Bergen-based tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl marks the end of the extraordinary One Ocean Expedition as part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. To mark the occasion, the City of Bergen and Vestland County Council will host the One Ocean Expedition Summit on the 17th of April.

The aim of One Ocean Expedition has been to create attention and to share knowledge about the crucial role of the ocean for sustainable development in a global perspective. In line with the mission of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, the expedition has worked to connect people and our ocean across the globe. The 109-year old ship has served as a floating university through research and education for students, scientists, trainees, and professionals. During port visits around the world, Statsraad Lehmkuhl has served as a hub for knowledge-sharing and diplomacy.

What legacy does the One Ocean Expedition leave behind? What role does this initiative have in efforts towards securing the ocean we want for the future? The summit will answer these key questions by presenting and discussing the important takeaways from the expedition. Drawing on experiences and results from onboard the ship, the summit aims to inspire actionable results through science-based innovative solutions, knowledge sharing, partnerships, and taking action towards sustainable use of the ocean.

The One Ocean Expedition Summit will be attended by UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Ocean, His Excellency Peter Thomson, Minister for International Development Anne Beathe Tvinnereim, Minister for climate and environment Espen Barth Eide, Minister for fisheries and ocean policy Bjørnar Skjæran, high level participants and representatives from research, business, industry, and youth.

Moderator: David Eades
Programme Chair: Camilla Borrevik, University of Bergen

Closed event (by invitation only). The summit will be streamed, please see link further down.
