14th Of April Are animals without ears impacted by underwater noise pollution?

Ciona

Date: 14th Of April
Time: 12.00 – 16.00 CET
Location: Festningskaien 1, 5003 Bergen

Join us to discover the impact of noise pollution on the oceans! In our interactive exhibition, you will get a chance to experience underwater soundscapes, answer our quiz and meet the scientists that study their impact on the environment. You will also have the opportunity to take a closer look at some of the ocean’s inhabitants, in aquariums and under the microscope. The event is suitable for all and held in Norwegian and English.

The exhibition is based on Deuteronoise, a European interdisciplinary projectthat uses acoustics, genetics, behavior and physiology to study the impact of human-made underwater noise on marine animals like echinoderms, cephalochordates and tunicates.

Its goal is to assess the levels and types of human-made underwater noise present in different marine basins across Europe, and investigate the effects of this noise on behavioral, morphological, and genetic changes across different species. This research will inform European policy makers on what are safe and acceptable levels of noise pollution that do not adversely affect marine organisms.

The Michael Sars Centre at the University of Bergen is an international community of scientists using advanced technologies to study the unique molecular and cellular biology of marine organisms. We aim to establish local, national, and international networks through collaborative research, joint training, and scientific exchange.
